Remember it is still beta but it looks great. To bad the demo was with Opsmgr 2007 RC1 ;-)

The Tool looks great, the first demo was about monitoring a cisco device, this was easy to manage by port or by traffic rule , syslog filters are in place and you can easy change the alert ( error, informational etc) or change the community string.

Overview

Microsoft Windows Key Management Service (KMS) is a new Windows service used in volume-licensed environments to activate machines running Windows Vista or later versions.

This management pack monitors and reports the health of KSM hosts within the enterprise environment.

The Microsoft Windows Key Management Service rule group enables system administrators to monitor the health of all computers on which the Key Management Service is enabled. Rules create alerts for conditions that could indicate KMS outages or impending problems.

In addition, KMS activity data logged in the Windows event log are collected to support forensic and statistical reporting for KMS client activations. Coupled with other sources of data, such as System Center Operations Manager, IT pros can gain a complete view of all the volume-licensed computers in their environment.

Feature Bullet Summary:

Alerts are generated for the following conditions:

• KMS initialization failures

• DNS SRV publishing failures

• The KMS machine count is below a specified low-water mark

• No KMS activity has occurred for designated periods

Reporting:

• A data collection rule is provided that sends all client requests logged by KMS to the MOM database for subsequent analysis.

• A sample set of SQL reports is provided that can be used as a basis for extensive reporting on client activations.

Ability to monitor for DHCP service availability (stopped state)

Ability to monitor for start up failures that are due to network or communication issues

Ability to monitor for start up failures that are due to issues found within service initialization data

Ability to monitor for unexpected service terminations

Ability to monitor DHCP scope health

Ability to detect when unauthorized DHCP servers are on the network

Ability to detect when DHCP is unable to restore the DHCP database
